Romans 12

12 Therefore ^(A)I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to ^(B)present your bodies as a living and holy sacrifice, ^[a]acceptable to God, which is your ^[b]spiritual service of worship. ²And do not ^(C)be conformed to ^(D)this ^[c]world, but be transformed by the ^(E)renewing of your mind, so that you may ^[d]^(F)prove what the will of God is, that which is good and ^[e]acceptable and perfect.

³For through ^(G)the grace given to me I say to everyone among you ^(H)not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to ^(I)each a measure of faith. ⁴For ^(J)just as we have many parts in one body and all ^[f]the body’s parts do not have the same function, ⁵so we, ^(K)who are many, are ^(L)one body in Christ, and individually parts of one another. ⁶However, since we have gifts that ^(M)differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to use them properly: if ^(N)prophecy, ^[g]in proportion to one’s faith; ⁷if ^[h]^(O)service, in the act of serving; or the one who ^(P)teaches, in the act of teaching; ⁸or the one who ^[i]^(Q)exhorts, in the work of ^[j]exhortation; the one who gives, with ^[k]^(R)generosity; ^(S)the one who ^[l]is in leadership, with diligence; the one who shows mercy, with ^(T)cheerfulness.

⁹^[m]^(U)Love must be free of hypocrisy. ^(V)Detest what is evil; cling to what is good. ¹⁰Be ^(W)devoted to one another in brotherly love; ^[n]give preference to one another ^(X)in honor, ¹¹not lagging behind in diligence, ^(Y)fervent in spirit, ^(Z)serving the Lord; ¹²^(AA)rejoicing in hope, ^(AB)persevering in tribulation, ^(AC)devoted to prayer, ¹³^(AD)contributing to the needs of the ^[o]saints, ^[p]^(AE)practicing hospitality.

¹⁴^(AF)Bless those who persecute ^[q]you; bless and do not curse. ¹⁵^(AG)Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. ¹⁶^(AH)Be of the same mind toward one another; ^(AI)do not be ^[r]haughty in mind, but ^[s]associate with the lowly. ^(AJ)Do not be wise in your own estimation. ¹⁷^(AK)Never repay evil for evil to anyone. ^[t]^(AL)Respect what is right in the sight of all people. ¹⁸If possible, ^(AM)so far as it depends on you, ^(AN)be at peace with all people. ¹⁹^(AO)Never take your own revenge, beloved, but ^[u]leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written: “^(AP)Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. ²⁰“^(AQ)But if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” ²¹Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

The Offering of Isaac

22 Now it came about after these things, that ^(A)God tested Abraham, and said to him, “^(B)Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” ²Then He said, “Take now ^(C)your son, your only son, whom you love, Isaac, and go to the land of ^(D)Moriah, and offer him there as a ^(E)burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I will tell you.” ³So Abraham got up early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him and his son Isaac; and he split wood for the burnt offering, and set out and went to the place of which God had told him. ⁴On the third day Abraham raised his eyes and saw the place from a distance. ⁵Then Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey, and I and the boy will go over there; and we will worship and return to you.” ⁶And Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and ^(F)laid it on his son Isaac, and he took in his hand the fire and the knife. So the two of them walked on together. ⁷Isaac spoke to his father Abraham and said, “My father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” And he said, “Look, the fire and the wood, but where is the ^(G)lamb for the burnt offering?” ⁸Abraham said, “God will ^[a]provide for Himself the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” So the two of them walked on together.

⁹Then they came to ^(H)the place of which God had told him; and Abraham built ^(I)the altar there and arranged the wood, and bound his son Isaac and ^(J)laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. ¹⁰And Abraham reached out with his hand and took the knife to ^[b]slaughter his son. ¹¹But ^(K)the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” ¹²He said, “Do not reach out your hand against the boy, and do not do anything to him; for now ^(L)I know that you ^[c]fear God, since you have not withheld ^(M)your son, your only son, from Me.” ¹³Then Abraham raised his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram caught in the thicket by its horns; and Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering in the place of his son. ¹⁴And Abraham named that place ^[d]The Lord Will Provide, as it is said to this day, “On the mountain of the Lord ^(N)it will ^[e]be provided.”

¹⁵Then the angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time from heaven, ¹⁶and said, “^(O)By Myself I have sworn, declares the Lord, because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only son, ¹⁷indeed I will greatly bless you, and I will greatly ^(P)multiply your ^[f]seed as the stars of the heavens and as ^(Q)the sand, which is on the seashore; and ^(R)your ^[g]seed shall possess the gate of ^[h]their enemies. ¹⁸And ^(S)in your ^[i]seed all the nations of the earth shall ^[j]be blessed, because you have ^(T)obeyed My voice.” ¹⁹^(U)So Abraham returned to his young men, and they got up and went together to Beersheba; and Abraham lived in Beersheba.

²⁰Now it came about after these things, that Abraham was told, saying, “Behold, ^(V)Milcah ^[k]also has borne children to your brother Nahor: ²¹Uz his firstborn, Buz his brother, Kemuel (the father of Aram), ²²Chesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph, and Bethuel”— ²³and it was Bethuel who fathered ^(W)Rebekah. These eight Milcah bore to Nahor, Abraham’s brother. ²⁴His concubine, whose name was Reumah, ^[l]also gave birth to Tebah, Gaham, Tahash, and Maacah.
